SKIPPACK TOWNSHIP, PA β€” A daycare owner and township supervisor in Montgomery County was arrested this week after police in Maryland said he had child pornography in his possession and that he attempted to sexually solicit a child, according to authorities and court documents.

Nick Fountain, 38, a Collegeville resident and vice-chair of the Skippack Township Board of Supervisors for the past 12 years, faces the charges in Harford County, Maryland.

Fountain also unsuccessfully ran for state senate as a Republican in the 24th district in 2022. The 24th, now represented by Tracy Pennycuick, covers a large swath of Montgomery County and parts of Berks County.

Since 2020, Fountain, a Perkiomen Valley High School and Temple University graduate, has owned the Magnolia Enrichment Center in Skippack and the Magnolia Children's Academy in Gilbertsville. The daycares serve children between the ages of six weeks and six years old.

Specific details on what led to the charges in Maryland are not yet clear. Court documents indicate that he was arrested by Pennsylvania State Police in Skippack on Wednesday and that he's currently being held at Montgomery County Correctional Facility, but that he will be extradited to Maryland to face the charges following a hearing.

Magisterial District Judge Todd Barnes issued an order to deny a motion to set bail.

Skippack Township Supervisors said they were "shocked" when they discovered the arrest.

"We don’t know many details right now and are seeking to learn more from law enforcement," the board said in a statement. "The details we do have, however, are deeply disturbing. If true, we call on Mr. Fountain to resign from the Board of Supervisors. We will not have anything further to say until we know more."

Montgomery County Republican Commissioner Tom DiBello also issued a statement condemning Fountain.

"As many have seen this article from yesterday and have been asking me my position I want to be clear," DiBello said. "I don’t care (about) political affiliation (and) I absolutely condemn these alleged heinous actions. No child should ever experience these disgusting behaviors. My heart goes out to any and all victims especially his family and children. They don’t deserve this, their lives will be forever changed."

A date has not yet been set for Fountain's extradition hearing.
