Montco Nurse Was 'Angel' To Family Of Man Dying From Coronavirus
"The day we took him off vent we asked her to be there. She held his hand for 7 hours until he took his last breath. She's our hero."
EAST NORRITON, PA β For nearly a full month amidst the height of the coronavirus pandemic, Sharon Spitko and her family could not see her father.
After testing positive for coronavirus and suffering severe symptoms, he required the use of a ventilator. He was quarantined in the ICU at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery.
But during an unimaginable situation, they were not entirely cut off. They were able to stay in contact through someone they would come to realize was very special: his ICU nurse, Tammy Nealy.

"He was on vent for 28-days. We couldn't see him. Our only communication was though (Tammy)," Sharon told Patch.
As his condition worsened and it became clear he wouldn't make it, the Spitko family turned to Tammy for support.

Sharon, who nominated Tammy for recognition as a Patch Local Hero, wanted people to know what Tammy had done for her family.
"She's the most selfless and caring nurse. She risked her life everyday on the frontline to care for my dad knowing he had COVID. She's truly a remarkable human being and an angel to our family. She deserves to be recognized as the true hero that she is."
