Bucks Co. NAACP Vigil Planned In Feasterville-Trevose

What organizers are describing as a "vigil for justice" will be held at Linconia Tabernacle Christian Center on Paris Avenue.

FEASTERVILLE-TREVOSE, PA — The Bucks County NAACP plans a "vigil for justice" Tuesday evening in Feasterville-Trevose as what have been peaceful protests continue in the county.

The "Community Vigil For Justice" is set for 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Linconia Tabernacle Christian Center, at 2460 Paris Ave.

The purpose of the gathering, organizers say, is to remember the victims of police violence. Attendees will meet at Linconia Tabernacle and walk to Linconia Park, according to organizers.

They are encouraged to wear masks, bring water bottles and practice social distancing.

"We invite you to please come out and join us for a community memorial as we hold a vigil for the funeral of George Floyd and we demand justice for the many African-American men and women who have died as a result of police brutality," said Karen Downer, president of the Bucks County NAACP. "On Tuesday we want to take a moment to honor the dignity and value of their lives. Our road to justice is just beginning."

Floyd's death in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota, touched off a series of protests against police violence that have reached all 50 states and nations across the globe. A Houston native, he will be buried there on Tuesday.

On Monday, Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who kneeled on Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes, will make his first court appearance. He is charged with second-degree murder, third-degree manslaughter and third-degree murder.

The other three former officers involved in the arrest — Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao — also face charges and are being held on $750,000 bail.

The Bucks NAACP organized one of the largest gatherings yet in what has been a busy series of police-violence protests in Bucks County. On Thursday, thousands of vehicles drove through a candlelight vigil at the Garden of Reflection in Lower Makefield.

In recent days, there have been peaceful protests held in Doylestown, Yardley, Warminster, Bristol, Newtown and elsewhere in Bucks County.
