Volunteers Needed for Lower Southampton Proud

The clean-up day scheduled for April 20 is an attempt by the township to bring the community together to spruce up public areas.

After a couple years in hiatus, Lower Southampton Township Manager John McMenamin and his staff have brought back the annual Lower Southampton Proud Day. On April 20, township residents and businesses are invited to help clean-up parks and other common areas.

"It fell to the side about five or six years ago," said McMenamin. "We wanted to start it up again and get the community to work together to spruce up our township."

The call is out for residents to volunteer their time and businesses to donate equipment and resources for the event. Boy scout and girl scout troops are especially invited to help out with the efforts.

The areas on which the township will concentrate will be determined based on the amount of people that pledge their assistance, according to zoning manager Carol Drioli.

The clean-up will run from 9 a.m. to noon, with refreshements provided between 1 and 3 p.m. The township board of supervisors will also provide a papere shredder and an electronic recycling drop-off point at the township building.
