5 Marple, Newtown Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

With the giving season nearly here, Patch readers should check out some of these local non-profit groups while considering local donations.

MARPLE-NEWTOWN, PA — If you’re like many of your Marple- and Newtown-area neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Marple and Newtown areas.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  1. Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association — The Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association recognizes and pays tribute to fallen armed forces members from Delaware County.
  2. Newtown Square Fire Company Auxiliary — The auxiliary cooperates with, encourages, and promotes the interests of the fire company through fundraising.
  3. Surrey Services for Seniors — Surrey Services aims to create a leading, dynamic community for aging adults by developing groundbreaking programs, services and activities that encourage and support older adults to live well longer.
  4. Animal Coalition Of Delaware County — The coalition aims to reduce stray and shelter animal populations in the region by finding them permanent homes.
  5. St. Mark Emergency Food Center — The St. Mark Emergency Food Center distributes food to the poor living in economically depressed parts of Delaware County.
