As we approach the end of April, Delco's Vision Zero Action Plan is picking up speed, powered by strong community engagement and a shared dedication to safer streets.
Under the guidance of the County Planning Department, this initiative is targeting various safety issues on our roads, from enhancing sidewalk connections to managing speeds, all with a focus on solutions that benefit everyone in our community.

Local residents such as Linda McIsaac from Newtown Township and David Schwartz from Haverford Township are playing pivotal roles in gathering feedback within their communities. Utilizing methods such as walk audits and online surveys, they're collecting feedback to help inform the planning department's decisions in Newtown, Marpe, Radnor, and Haverford Townships. Each Township in Delaware County has appointed 'safety ambassadors' like Linda and David who are diligently working to ensure their community's voices are heard.

Participating in the process is simple. Whether you're a resident, commuter, or worker in any of these townships, your input is valuable. Share your ideas for safer crossings, highlight areas of concern, or suggest improvements by completing the survey found here: www.delcopa.gov/visionzerodelc... Plus, by completing the survey, you'll be entered for a chance to win a $50 gift card. You can also find more information about Vision Zero and the planning department’s Action Plan at https://www.delcopa.gov/planni...

Beyond its focus on safety, this initiative also aligns with Earth Month values by promoting walking and biking as eco-friendly transportation options. By enhancing sidewalks and adding bike lanes, we're not only improving safety but also encouraging healthier lifestyles. Walking and biking reduce traffic congestion and pollution, making our community a more desirable place to live.

Ultimately, the goal of the Delco Vision Zero Action Plan is to eliminate traffic-related injuries and deaths. With the active involvement of community members, we can work towards creating streets that are safe and accessible for all, contributing to a future where every journey is secure and enjoyable.
