Free Blood Pressure Screenings Friday In Delaware County
Residents can get free blood pressure screenings Friday morning at the Yeadon Wellness Center in recognition of Black History Month.
DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — The Delaware County Health Department and Main Line Health will be offering free blood pressure screenings Friday in recognition of Black History Month.
Free screenings will be available from 10 a.m. to noon at the Yeadon Wellness Center, 125 Chester Ave. in Yeadon.
Screenings will be conducted on a walk-in, first come, first served basis.

"High blood pressure is the leading cause of heart disease and stroke in the United States and very common in Delaware County," Delaware County Health Department Director Melissa Lyon, said. "The concerning fact about high blood pressure is that it usually comes with little or no symptoms. The only way for residents to know if they have high blood pressure is to get screened. Thanks to our partners at Main Line Health, Delaware County residents have an opportunity to prevent health issues like heart disease and stroke.”
According to the CDC, high blood pressure affects nearly one in two adults in the United States.

High blood pressure, also known as the "silent killer," increases the risk of heart disease and stroke.
It is more common in non-Hispanic Black adults (54 percent) than in non-Hispanic White adults (46 percent), non-Hispanic Asian adults (39 percent), or Hispanic adults (36 percent), according to officials.
