Marple Newtown High School Students Sweep National History Day Competition
Nine students from Marple Newtown High School swept the competition, landing first, second and third places in this year's National History Day competition.
NEWTOWN SQUARE–National History Day (NHD) is a highly regarded academic program for students in sixth through twelfth grades
swept the competition this year taking first place, second place and third place in this year's NHD. In first place: Idy Ding, Priyanga Selakumar and Zoe Weiner; second place: Madison Murphy, William Manley, and Lauren Ferguson; and third place: Tom Perpiglia, Sam Caldwell and Brian Matthew.
According to the Chester County Historical Society, each year, more than 700,000 students, encouraged by thousands of teachers and parents nationwide, participate in the NHD contest. Students choose historical topics related to an annually changing theme and learn how to conduct extensive primary and secondary research through libraries, archives, museums, oral history interviews and historic sites. Students present their work in one of five categories: original papers, websites, exhibits, performances and documentaries.

Student projects are entered in competitions at regional, state and national levels where they are evaluated by professional historians and educators.
