Marple Police Remind Drivers Of School Bus Stopping Laws As Kids Head Back

Marple Police reviewed 2,332 local school bus violations during the 2024-25 school year, and more than 1,600 resulted in fines being issued.

MARPLE TOWNSHIP, PA — Drivers in Marple Township are on notice as the 2025-26 school year is now underway.

Police in Marple Township are urging driver to obey school bus stopping laws. Not only for drivers to avoid being penalized, but for the safety of the area's youth.

According to Marple Police, authorities reviewed 2,332 local school bus violations during the 2024-25 school year.

Of those reviewed, 69 percent were approved, resulting in civil fines being issued.

Police said violations largely occurred on the 100, 200, and 300 blocks of Lawrence Road; the 2200 block of South Sproul; the 1600 and 1900 blocks of South Sproul Road; the 100 block of South Sproul Road; and the 100 block of North Sproul Road.

Most violations were vehicles traveling in the opposite direction of the school bus. Police said some violations occurred when vehicles were traveling the same direction as the bus. Some of those incidents involved vehicles driving into oncoming traffic to pass buses.

"Remind yourself, remind your family members, and remind your friends, a new school year is ready to begin, and everyone needs to pay attention on the roadway," police said.
