Rep. Meehan Nominates 5 Local Students to Service Academies

Rep. Pat Meehan (R-7) recently announced five local students in the Marple Newtown Patch area who have received his nomination to a U.S. service academy, reports the .

According to the Delaware County Times, 36 students in the area were nominated by Meehan to a U.S. service academy, in which five are students within the Marple and Newtown communities.

The nomination does not guarantee admission to the academy. However, Patch was recently told that Sean Ridinger, of Marple Newtown High School, received his "offer of appointment" (a letter of acceptance) from the Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy. Ridinger has accepted the offer, and his Induction Day, or I-Day, is June 28th.

The following is a list of local students who have been nominated for the 2012 U.S. service academies.

According to U.S. News Reports, the U.S. Naval Academy is ranked 14 in the 2012 edition of Best Colleges in National Liberal Arts Colleges. The U.S. Naval Academy is located in Annapolis, MD, and currently has an admissions acceptance rate of 8.4 percent. There are currently 4,603 students who are enrolled in the academy.

The U.S. Military Academy is ranked 14 in the 2012 edition of Best Colleges in National Liberal Arts Colleges, according to U.S. News Reports. The U.S. Military Academy is located in West Point, NY, and currently has an admissions acceptance rate of 13.1 percent. There are currently 4,686 students who are enrolled in the academy.
