MNHS' Don Tabar Named Coach Of The Year, Wrestling Team Receives Recognition

Don Tabar, Marple Newtown High School's head wrestling coach, was recently recognized as the Central League Coach of the Year this past winter season and the Tigers were recognized during Tuesday night's school board meeting for their successful season.

NEWTOWN SQUARE–The Tigers wrestling team had a whirlwind of a season, starting off with a new , and coming out as the team to beat this season.

For the record, the Tigers came out with 20 wins and 2 losses overall. However in the Central League, the wrestling team remained undefeated throughout the season with 11 consecutive wins, .

In addition, seven wrestlers on the team–Jason Rinaldi, Aaron Moldoff, Ryan Flynn, Pat Callaghan, Tommy Antista, Chris Kurkian and Ken Smith–will advance to regionals this weekend at Oxford.

If the wrestlers finish in the top four of the tournament, they will then advance to the state tournament in Hershey. According to the school, Moldoff and Flynn both advanced to states last year.

But the team's success wasn't only due to their talent but also under the guidance of their assistant coaches Pat Crater, William Cawley and Tim Layer, and especially their first-year coach Don Tabar.

Tabar was also recently recognized for the team's successful season by the Central League and was named as this season's Coach of the Year. Tabar and the Tigers wrestling team were recognized by the on Tuesday night.
