New Coronavirus Cases Drop In Delco, Hospitalizations Increase

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — New confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Delaware County appear to be waning after a holiday surge, new data from the state shows.

According to the latest date from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, new cases decreased from 8,599 last week to 7,783 this week.

Additionally, the incidence rate per 100,000 people saw a decrease from 1,517.3 to 1,373.3.

The county's positivity rate also dropped, albeit slightly, from 39.4 percent to 37.7 percent.

Another key metric that saw a decrease was the percent of people showing up to emergency rooms with coronavirus-like illnesses. That figure went down from 4 percent to 2.1 percent.

While these metrics dropped, hospitalizations and ventilator use increased.

Average daily coronavirus specific hospitalizations jumped from 182.7 to 263.7.

And average daily coronavirus patients on ventilators increased from 6.4 to 19.3.

As of Friday, 84,698 cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Delaware County. Additionally, 1,621 coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in the county.

To date, 339,221 people have been fully vaccinated in Delaware County, and 78,113 have been partially vaccinated. An additional 119,180 people have gotten booster shots in Delaware County since Aug. 13, 2021.
