New COVID Cases In Delco Drop, Hospitalizations Rise Slightly

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Delaware County's surge in new coronavirus cases appears to be waning still, as state data shows a near 50 percent drop in the number of new cases this week from last week.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Delaware County saw 4,473 new cases this week, down about 45 percent from last week's 8,101 confirmed new cases.

The county's incidence rate per 100,000 people also had a roughly 45 percent drop, with this week's rate dropping to 789.2 from last week's 1,429.2.

Other metrics that measure the virus's impact in the county that dropped were the positive testing rate and the percent of people showing up to hospitals with coronavirus-like illnesses.

This week's positive testing rate was 29.4 percent, down from 37.6 last week.

Also, this week's percent of people showing up to hospitals with coronavirus-like illnesses went down from 2.1 percent to 1.3 percent.

The average number of daily hospitalized coronavirus patients increased slightly from 263.7 to 276.1.

And the average number of daily coronavirus patients who are on ventilators saw an increase from 19.3 to 25.9.

As of Friday, the county has seen 88,966 confirmed cases of the virus and 1,663 coronavirus-related deaths.

Regarding vaccinations, 341,086 people in Delaware County have been fully vaccinated, 81,190 have been partially vaccinated, and 134,764 people have gotten third doses since Aug. 13, 2021.
