Newtown Public Library Welcomes Photographer Beth Dhunjisha!

The Friends of the Library are delighted to kick off our 1st exhibit in 2 years with Beth Dhunjisha's nature photography!

Petals, pistils and stamens. You may recognize these parts of a flower, but when was the last time you slowed down and noticed them on a rose or a lily?

Then it may be time you honed your powers of observation at Newtown Public Library’s beautiful photography exhibit by the artist Beth Dhunjisha!

Beth’s specialty, macro photography, involves highly detailed, magnified images. This type of work requires patience and precise timing, because many of her subjects – from birds to bees – refuse to pose for their portraits.

Fortunately, Beth has been snapping photos since the fourth grade, when she received her first camera, and is a devoted lover of the outdoors (she works at Valley Forge National Park). So in Beth’s view, any time outside, photographing scenes in nature, is time well spent.

Her subjects often reflect the changing of the seasons, and she finds inspiration both from where she lives and where she works. She elaborated on her perspective here:

"I’m so fortunate to have woods behind our house, a stream nearby, and lots of space to explore. You can always find something interesting in nature – but most people just walk by and miss the little miracles. Insects, flowers, veins of a leaf... they are all part of this truly amazing ecosystem that we live in. "

Through the Delaware County Camera Club (one of the oldest camera clubs in the country), Beth has developed a strong network of colleagues who help each other with feedback and instruction.

"The Delco Camera Club https://dccc.photoclubservices.com is basically a great group of friends who meet weekly for photo shoots and exhibits at places like the Haverford Preserve, Paoli hospital, and the Wilmington Horticultural Society. Club members are supportive, creative, and improve all our skills."

Besides work and photography, Beth’s family is the center of her life. She and her husband, Feroze, have been together since college, and they and their two sons have enjoyed living in Newtown Square for 18 years.

Her role in the community expanded again recently when she joined the Newtown Township Trails and Greenways Committee. Their goal is to ultimately connect trails that will enable us all to walk from Willistown on our western edge to Radnor on our eastern border. Beth has already led hundreds of people on walks around the township!

"We had over 150 registrations on March 6th, which reinforced the importance of preserving greenspace and expanding the trails in Newtown Square. Our monthly walks are a great way to learn about ecology, history, and how to be good stewards of our precious environment."
