Overall Crime Up In 2024: Annual Marple Police Report

Crime increased in 2024 in Marple Township, but ever so slightly. See 2024's crime statistics for Marple Township here.

MARPLE TOWNSHIP, PA — Overall crime was up in 2024 in Marple Township, but the increase was negligible at best.

That's according to the Marple Township Police Department's 2024 Annual Report.

Marple Police issued the report recently, and it details crime statistic for 2024, 2023, and 2022.

The township had 487 overall crimes in 2024. That figure is slightly higher than 2023, which saw 483 crimes. In 2022, Marple had 530 crimes, per the report.

The number of arrests is similar. In 2024, police made 305 arrests. In 2023, there were 303 and 355 in 2022.

Of 2024's arrests 46 percent were white, and 46 percent were black. Hispanics accounts for six percent of arrests and Asians 2 percent.

Sixty-seven percent of those arrested were men, while 33 were women.

Most people arrested were from Delaware County, with 33 percent. Twenty-eight percent were Philadelphians, 19 percent were from outside Delaware County and from other states, and 15 percent were from Broomall/Marple Township. Three percent were from other countries, homeless, or had unknown addresses.

There were 39 juvenile offenses in which an actor was identified and charged criminally or referred to the Youth Aid Panel in 2024. That decreased from 83 in 2023.

Of these offenders, 11 juvenile petitions were forwarded to the Juvenile Court System. That number was a decrease of nine from 2023 which saw 20 juveniles petitioned to the court in 2023. In 2024, 24 juveniles were referred to the Youth Aid Panel, a decrease of 18 from 42 in 2023.

Ten juveniles were issued non traffic citations in 2024. That was an increase of one from nine in 2023

Police had 28 “use of force” incidents in 2024. That figure is largely unchanged from 2023, which saw 27 incidents.

Twenty-six of the 28 incidents were limited to an officer or officers physically restraining or controlling an individual using nothing more than their hands and training. In two incidents a taser was effectively and properly deployed to gain compliance from an arrestee.

  • Arson — 1 total, 1 cleared, 1 arrested
  • Forgery — 24 total, 6 cleared, 5 arrested
  • Fraud — 59 total, 14 cleared, 11 arrested
  • Receiving Stolen Property — 7 total, 6 cleared, 11 arrested
  • Criminal Mischief (Vandalism) — 19 total, 3 cleared, 3 arrested
  • Weapons Violations — 2 total, 2 cleared, 4 arrested
  • Sex Offenses — 2 total, 2 cleared, 1 arrested
  • Drug Laws — 13 total, 13 cleared, 16 arrested
  • DUI — 19 total, 19 cleared, 19 arrested
  • Underage Drinking — 6 total, 6 cleared, 9 arrested
  • Public Drunkenness — 14 total, 14 cleared, 14 arrested
  • Disorderly Conduct — 3 total, 3 cleared, 3 arrested
  • PICS Violation (P.A. Instant Check System) — 3 total, 3 cleared, 1 arrested
  • Littering — 1 total, 1 cleared, 1 arrested
  • Harassment — 10 total, 10 cleared, 8 arrested
  • Criminal Trespass — 3 total, 3 cleared, 3 arrested
  • Protection From Abuse Order Violations — 4 total, 4 cleared, 4 arrested
  • Arrest on Warrant (Fugitive) — 6 total, 6 cleared, 7 arrested
  • Stalking — 3 total, 3 cleared, 3 arrested
  • Eluding — 5 total, 5 cleared, 6 arrested

In 2024, police got 15,605 total calls, up from 2023 which saw 150,157. 2022 had 14,310.
