Paxon Hollow Students Rank High in Quiz Bowl
Sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade gifted support homeroom students at Paxon Hollow Middle School recently competed in the Pennsylvania Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl competition.

BROOMALL– gifted support homeroom students in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades, recently competed in the Pennsylvania Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl competition from Jan. 24-25.
The school announced that the sixth-grade team scored 1,223 points and ranked secong among 26 schools in Pennsylvania.
In addition, the seventh-grade team scored 1,115 points and ranked seventh among 65 schools in Pennsylvania.

The eighth-grade team scored 1,140 points and ranked 16th among 65 schools in Pennsylvania, announced the school.
According to the school, the Quiz Bowl consists of tests that are self-scoring, computer contests of 100 multiple-choice questions. Curricular areas covered include math, geography, government, sports, spelling, science, literature, English, history, and other general information.

The competition is a team activity with all takers around one computer. Two chances to answer correctly are given. Points are awarded based on how fast they answer as well as on accuracy. Therefore, teams do well when a consensus answer is quickly provided. An adult is needed to monitor, but no adult help can be given, announced the school.
