Police Blotter: Finger Amputation and an Iron Gate, Fishing Rods, Barrel Full of Wire and More Stolen

Two Separate Retail Thefts at TJ Maxx on Tuesday

On Aug. 30 at approximately 3:20 p.m., responded to in the Lawrence Park Shopping Center for a reported retail theft. The store officer provided a written statement to police indicating she was conducting surveillance in the store and observed a 42-year-old woman conceal a pair of black jeans, a pair of tan, suede jump shorts and a gray Willie Smith shirt in her purse. According to the store officer, the woman then stopped at the cashier and paid for other merchandise other than the ones she had placed in her purse. The total value of items taken was $46.97. In addition, after further investigation, police observed the woman had four miscellaneous pills, believed to be of controlled substances, in which she had no proof of prescription for the pills. The woman also had a partially smoked, hand-rolled cigarette that contained suspected marijuana. The cigarette and pills have been sent to the crime lab for identification. Melissa Denise Everett was charged for theft and narcotics possession. Everett had had three prior convictions for retail theft and is on probation through March 28, 2013. She awaits arraignment with District Court #32-1-24.

On Aug. 30 at approximately 6:35 p.m., police responded to TJ Maxx for a reported retail theft. The store officer observed a woman conceal numerous items of clothing in a bag and enter the dressing room. The store officer stopped the woman and recovered the concealed merchandise, which was valued at over $250. The woman was arrested and transported to Marple Police Station where she was processed.

Finger Amputation On 2nd Avenue

On Aug. 20 at 12:32 p.m., police responded to the 200 block of 2nd Avenue in Broomall for a reported medical emergency of a finger amputation. Upon arrival, police found the resident walking outside his home holding his arm in the air. According to police, the injury was to his right index finger and was a deep cut from a table saw. The man appeared to be going into shock so police assisted him with laying on the ground and elevating his feet. The man had the bleeding controlled with paper towels. The man was examined and treated by and transported to Bryn Mawr Hospital.

Thieft Takes Sink, Lawn Mower, Stove and a Barrel Full of Wire

On Aug. 19 at approximately 5:15 p.m., police responded to Top Soil at 2635 West Chester Pike for a reported theft. According to police, the owner stated that sometime after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17, someone had removed a large stainless steel commercial sink, lawn mower, stove and a barrel full of wire. Police said all items were apparently left outside. Police are further investigating this incident.

Thief Makes Way With Wrought Iron Gate

On Aug. 18 at approximately 5:35 p.m., police responded to a home on Cherry Hill Lane for a reported theft. Upon arrival, police said the resident told police that someone had taken a large, black, wrought iron gate valued at approximately $300 from the side of his home sometime between Aug. 13 and Aug. 18.

3 Fishing Rods Taken From Front Porch

On Aug. 18 at just before 7:50 p.m., a man came into the Marple Police Station to report a theft of fishing rods. According to the incident report, the man stated that sometime in the past 24 hours his three fishing rods were taken off of his front porch at his home on South Sproul Road. According to police, the porch is on the side of his home and is highly visible to the driveway that leads to the barn next door. One Penn Rod and Reel valued at $120, one rod with an unknown value, and one Shimano St. Croix Rod, Calcutta reel valued at $400 were all reported stolen/missing.
