Police Blotter: Jewelry Stolen From Home, Thefts From Cars, Obscenities Written Around Town

$2,800 Worth of Jewelry Taken From Home
On Sept. 13 around 6:15 p.m., two residents came into station to report a theft of several pieces of jewelry from their home. According to police, the woman of the home stated that the jewelry was last seen in her jewelry stand on Sunday night and discovered the items missing on Monday evening. The woman told police a contractor was doing electrical work in the home the day before and was the only known person in the home, besides the family, the entire day. The items missing included an engagement ring valued at approximately $2,000, a gold ring valued at approximately $300, and another gold ring valued at $500. The man of the home reported one jewelry item missing: a gold, engraved wedding band with diamonds. The woman later told police they called several jewelers and found that the contractor was just in one of the jewelers trying to buy back the jewelry. They were able to buy back the jewelry for $375. Police are further investigating this incident.

On Sept. 9 at 10:27 a.m., a man reported that his car was entered into and several items were stolen from his 2002 Neon. According to police, the man was parked several rows near the front of the main entrance in front of around 9 a.m. He returned to his vehicle 15 minutes later and found his backpack was missing. A laptop and power cord as well as work documents were contained inside the backpack.

On Sept. 5 at approximately 3:50 p.m., a man came into Marple police station to report a theft. According to the man, sometime around 7:10 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. on Aug. 31, someone had apparently forced their way into his 2010 Ford and took a list of items from his car that was parked in front of the AMC 10 movie theatres at the Marple Crossings Shopping Center on 400 South State Road. The man told police that he did not realize that the items were stolen until later as there was no obvious damage. Upon further investigation, the man told police he discovered that his lock inside the door appeared to be broken by some type of prying device. A set of eyeglasses valued at $200, a leadman valued at $85, a work bag valued at $85, work gloves valued at $30, a work knife valued at $20, a watch valued at $20, a flashlight valued at $20, and a Sony PSP valued at $200 were all taken from his car. He mentioned to police a second wallet and various other credit cards were not touched.
$2,400 Worth of Items Stolen From Fenced-In Backyard
On Sept. 3 at approximately 12:20 p.m., police responded to a home on Strathaven Drive in Broomall for a reported theft. According to the resident, the window/siding equipment was stolen from his backyard sometime overnight. According to the man, there were four different items removed from under a blue tarp in the fenced-in yard. The total loss was valued at approximately $2,400. The equipment was last seen undisturbed at about 11 p.m. the night before. Police are further investigating this incident.
Obscenities Scrawled on Private Property Around Town
On Sept. 3 at approximately 9:20 a.m., police responded to a home on the 2600 block of Highland Avenue for a criminal mischief/vandalism report. According to police, sometime between 8 p.m. on Sept. 2 and 9 a.m. on Sept. 3, someone used a white crayon or chalk to write obscene graphics on the resident’s driveway. The actor(s) also threw wet toilet paper on the real estate sign in the front yard, said police. Police are further investigating this incident.
On Sept. 3 around 9:45 a.m., police responded to the 2600 block of Caranel Road in Broomall just after the Highland Avenue vandalism incident and located a black, 2006 Chevy pickup truck parked in front of a resident’s home with obscene words and graphics written on the passenger’s side windows. Police contacted the resident of the home, also the owner of the truck, about the incident. Police are further investigating this incident.
On Sept. 3 just before 10 a.m., police reported to yet another criminal mischief/vandalism incident on the 200 block of Beechtree Drive in Broomall. This time, obscene words and graphics were written and found on construction equipment in front of a resident’s home, said police. In addition, a portable bathroom was found knocked over and lying across the sidewalk. Police are further investigating this incident.
