Delco Honors Veterans Day

Thousands attended the annual parade in support of all veterans on Monday.

The 54rd Annual Delaware County Veterans Day Parade in Media paid tribute to all service men and women on Monday.Β 

A parade of 11 area school marching bands, antique cars, firetrucks, school students, ROTC members,Β politicalΒ figures like Sen. Pat Toomey, Rep. Pat Meehan andΒ Delaware County CouncilΒ joined the veterans as theyΒ marched down State Street in Media Borough at 11:11 a.m. on Nov. 11 in honor of Veterans Day.Β 

The parade kicked off with the roar ofΒ motocycles, followed byΒ Valley Forge Military Academy's Mounted Color Guard and Drummers.

Grand Marsals Dr. John Nagl, U.S. ArmyΒ and theΒ current headmaster of The Haverford School, andΒ U.S. Marine Corps VeteranΒ Jason SimmsΒ spoke of their experiences as veterans following the parade.Β 

This year's essay contest winners were all 6th graders at Springton Lake Middle School.Β
