Man Charged In Delco Hit-And-Run That Critically Hurt Boy, 8

CHESTER, PA — A man has been charged with felony aggravated assault by vehicle after police said he struck a child with a vehicle then drove off in Delaware County.

Caleb Campbell, 22, was taken into custody Thursday in connection with the Feb. 4 hit-and-run in Chester.

According to police, an 8-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of 9th and Tilghman streets at about 4:01 p.m. that day. The boy was later identified as Ny’Leek Ellison.

The boy suffered life-threatening injuries and was immediately transported to Crozer Chester Medical Center. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later airlifted to The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for further treatment, where he remains and continues to receive ongoing medical care.

Investigators were able to identify the striking vehicle through multiple video sources. The vehicle was located and recovered on Feb. 5 and its owner fully cooperated with the investigation.

That cooperation lead to the identification of the driver in the hit-and-run, who police said was Campbell.

Campbell was arraigned Friday and ordered to be held on $500,000 cash bail.
