Media String Band Member Dies, and Other Obituaries

Jeremiah Crain, of Media, formerly of Glenolden and Norwood, died at 83. Crain was a member of South Philadelphia String Band where he played saxophone, and of the Woodland String Band where he played Xylophone.

Frances A. Smith, of Media, died at 82.

Sallie M. Burns Hooks, of the Sterling Health & Rehabilitation Center in Media, died at 80.


H. Garth Heivly, of West Chester, died at 78. In his retirement, Garth coached baseball at the Newtown-Edgemont and Newtown Babe Ruth leagues for more than 10 years, was involved with the Marple-Newtown Jaycees serving as their president and chairman, and a volunteer with the St. Alban's Thrift Shop.

Doug Walker, of Newtown Square, died at 65. Walker was a Philadelphia banker and philanthropic activist.

Alice Marie Hess Brandt Crowell, of Newtown Square, died at 84.

George O'Donnell, of Broomall, died on Nov. 18.

John J. Cornog, of Brookhaven, died at 67. Cornog attended Penncrest High School.
