Philadelphia Union Goalie Holden Trent Dies At 25: What We Know
Union Goalkeeper Holden Trent has died at just 25 years old.
CHESTER, PA β The Philadelphia Union Saturday announced goalkeeper Holden Trent died. He was 25. Trent, a Greensboro, North Carolina native, was drafted by the team in 2023 and started six matches for the team.
The Union did not release details on the young player's death.
"Out of respect to Holdenβs friends and family, there will be no further statements at this time and ask that their privacy is respected as they grieve," the Union said in a statement.

"We want to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time," Trent's family said on social Media Saturday. "Holden passed away this afternoon surrounded by his family and friends."
The team described him as a "wonderful player and fierce competitor."

"He embodied the true meaning of determination, dedication and perseverance, and he will be deeply missed," the club said. "We extend our greatest sympathies to his family, his fiancΓ©, and his friends."
"Holdenβs passion for the game and his kindness off the field will be profoundly missed by everyone who knew him," Trent's management company Octagon Soccer said on social media.
Major League Soccer released a statement on Trent's death. "A young goalkeeper with a bright future, Trent showcased determination and professionalism every day as he contributed to the close-knit goalkeeping unit at Philadelphia."
USA Today reports Trent, before his death, became a registered organ donor and that the donation process is already underway.
