ROBINSON TOWNSHIP, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for Plaza Azteca on Sutherland Drive.

A recent inspection found a high risk violation of fish thawing in vacuum packaging at the too-high temperature of 55 degrees. That was a repeat violation.

The inspector also found foods at unsafe temperatures in the walk-in cooler. Cooked beef, pork, raw beef, chicken, shrimp, fish and steak were stored between 52 degrees and 56 degrees for an unknown amount of time. That food had to be discarded during the inspection, as did food in the drawer cooler under the griddle.

The inspection found that the eatery does not currently have enough refrigeration to maintain operations, although the restaurant remains open.

The inspection also found that the certified food protection manager on duty has not maintained safe and responsible food handling procedures for the staff and the facility, evident by the lack of active managerial controls in temperature maintenance and monitoring, as well as cooling procedures.
