Moon Middle School Teacher Killed in Ohio Crash

The district is providing counseling for students and faculty members following a teacher's death.

A teacher was killed Sunday in an Ohio car crash. 

Michael Walter, 34, an eighth-grade science teacher at Moon, and his passenger, Carie Ann Harris, 33, were killed at 11 a.m. Sunday after a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Route 45 and Route 165 in Salem, according to WYTV in Youngstown. 

The Ohio State Patrol said that as the pair's minivan proceeded from a stop sign on Route 165 it was struck by an oncoming tractor-trailer. Both Walter and Harris were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Walter was a resident of Beaver Falls. 

The Moon Area School District has posted a message of condolence to Walter's family on its website. Counseling is available for students and faculty members.
