Moon Police: 316th Army Reservist Found with Heroin Paraphernalia

An Army reservist from Moon Township's 316th Sustainment Command was charged with possessing drug paraphernalia after a struggle with his unit commander on University Boulevard. 

Sgt. Louis DiSanti, 26, of Erie, was found in possession of multiple syringes and a spoon on Nov. 15 at the Hampton Inn on University Boulevard, police said.

When police arrived to the hotel parking lot, a commander from the 316th was restraining DiSanti, holding him to the ground in a "bear hug" after the man attempted to flee, Moon Police Officer James Kazmierczak said in a complaint. 

DiSanti's superiors at the base had confronted him about seeking help for a heroin problem, according to the complaint. 

"(DiSanti) admitted to using heroin (the day prior) and having paraphernalia in his hotel room," Kazmierczak said. 

Reservists from the 316th are sometimes lodged in Moon-area hotels while serving at the base. 

Police searched DiSanti's vehicle and found the paraphernalia, according to the complaint. 

He faces a preliminary hearing Jan. 8 in Coraopolis District Court.

• Andrew Thomas Sweitzer, 37, of Moon Township, was charged with drug possession, driving while under the influence of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license and accidents involving damage to an unattended vehicle at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 on Montour Street Extension. Police said Sweitzer struck a gas line and PennDOT sign on the street and fled. 

• Clifford Thomas Headen, 41, of Arnold, PA, was charged with theft of leased property on Nov. 3. Police said Headen attempted to sell photography equipment online that he had rented from a Moon photographer.
