Update: Moon School Board Candidates Weigh in on Results

As election results rolled in Tuesday night, both incumbent candidates and those running on the Citizens for Education ticket expressed dismay over the primary's low voter turnout. 

"It's very disappointing," said Lisa Wolowicz, a current school board member who is seeking re-election. 

Wolowicz and other school board members watched the results from Bullhead's Bar and Grill on Beaver Grade Road, where they learned that fellow incumbent Nicholas Pollack lost the Democratic nomination to Michael Olszewski, who ran on the opposing ticket. 

Incumbent school board members Wolowicz, Mark Scappe, Rosemarie Varsanick and James Donohue, who are running for 4 -year terms, won the Democratic nominations for the board, along with Danny Barefoot, who is seeking a two-year term. 

In November, they will face Republican nominees Gia Tatone, Samuel Kay Tranter, Laura Jo Schisler and Denny Harbaugh. Each is running for a four-year term on the board, as well as Ron Steele, who is seeking a two-year term. 

Olszewski, who ran on the Citizens for Education ticket and cross-filed as a Democrat and Republican, won the Democratic and Republican nominations.

All election results are unofficial until the Allegheny County Division of Elections certifies them. Each of Moon's 13 voting precincts and Crescent's two voting precincts have reported results. A dozen candidates in the race cross-filed as Democrats and Republicans.
