Vehicles In Settlers Cabin Park To Get Theft 'Report Cards'

Allegheny County police are beginning a new program to detail how vulnerable a vehicle parked in a county park is for break-ins.

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PA — County parks visitors could begin seeing "vehicle report cards" issued by county police beginning Saturday. The attempt to reduce vehicle-related thefts in the county's nine parks

Offices on patrol in the parks will be observing vehicles and providing feedback on whether they are an easy target for thefts. The report card may note that the vehicle had valuables in plain view, doors unlocked, keys left in the vehicle, a window open, or something else making it an easy theft target.

Drivers can also receive a report card that they’ve made their vehicle less desirable and a harder
target for would-be burglars. The card also comes with vehicle safety tips and a reminder to visitors to call 911 if they observe suspicious persons or activity.

The county's nine parks are: North Park, South Park, Boyce Park, Hartwood Acres, Deer Lakes, Harrison Hills, Round Hill, White Oak and Settlers Cabin.
