National Beer Day: Celebrate At These New Hope Breweries

Thursday is National Beer Day, and New Hope taprooms — including one Ukrainian-owned brewery — are ready to mark the occasion.

NEW HOPE, PA — Thursday is National Beer Day, and the Delaware River towns of New Hope and Lambertville have got you covered when it comes to grabbing a pint.

National Beer Day honors the planet's most consumed alcoholic beverage on April 7, the day President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Cullen-Harrison Act in 1933. That law was a significant move toward ending Prohibition, allowing people to brew and sell beer with a low alcohol content in the United States.

Nearly 90 years later, beer is easily purchased and regularly enjoyed in bars all around the country — but local taprooms and breweries are booming, too, while putting their own flavor and spin on one of America's favorite drinks.

"I think prior to the onset of the pandemic there was definitely a surge towards hyper-local breweries or Taprooms," Bucks County brewer Gregg Bonstein told the blog Breweries in Pennsylvania recently. "Places where the local community could call their own."

Great Barn Taproom

A Ukrainian-owned brewery, this taproom brews with water from its own well and grows its own barley right here in Bucks County. It's also about the location here: the New Hope spot boasts views of the scenic Aquetong Creek and Bucks County Playhouse.

Check out this spot at 12 W. Mechanic St. in New Hope. On Thursday, the taproom is open between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Triumph Brewing Company of New Hope

This local brewery got started in the area in 2003, and offers an extensive food menu in addition to signature beers like its KellerPils, Irish Dry Stout, or Saison.

Located at 400 Union Square Dr. in New Hope, the shop is open Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a happy hour between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Neshaminy Creek Brewing Co.

A nationally-award winning brewer, this Bucks County favorite offers a taproom inside New Hope's Ferry Market with an array of drafts to sample. While Neshaminy Creek has produced hundreds of varieties, the brewery prides itself on its German and Lager styles.

Head to 32 S Main St. in New Hope and grab a beer between the hours of 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday.

Free Will Brewing Taproom

Open in Lahaska since 2016, this Peddler's Village brewery offers a modernized taproom amid the bustle of other shops and sights. Signature drafts and cans have some fun names like "Fool's Progress" and "Leagues Beneath."

Visit this local favorite at 168 Peddler's Village in Lahaska on Thursday between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m.
