After 3 Week Closure, Centre Avenue Bridge Reopens In Newtown
The historic double arch stone bridge closed in the waning days of December for the construction of a new pedestrian walkway.

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The historic Centre Avenue Bridge has reopened to pedestrians and to vehicles following a three week long construction project.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation closed the span just two days before the New Year for a three week project that saw the removal of the old pedestrian walkway and the construction of a new walkway.
The historic double-arch stone bridge dates back to 1796 when John Adams was President of the United States and Thomas Jefferson was vice president. Today it carries 4500 vehicles a day and provides a major pedestrian access point between the borough and the township.
