NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — All Newtown Township park facilities will be closed as of 4 p.m. Friday, and will remain closed until further notice, officials announced. The closure is due to the coronavirus crisis, which has caused all non-essential businesses in Pennsylvania to shut their doors.

All park facilities, including restrooms, snack stands, basketball courts, and skate parks will be closed until further notice, the township announced.

"All playgrounds and ballfields should be avoided and used discretionarily in accordance with the recommendations of the Governor's Office, and the CDC," the township said.

Organized sports are prohibited from utilizing the fields until further notice.

The mandate is effective starting at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 20 and will remain until further notice.

The following is a summary of precautionary actions implemented by Newtown Township:

● The Township Administrative Offices will be closed to the public until Wednesday, April 1 or as otherwise noted. The office can be reached by phone at 215-968-2800.

● The Township Police and Emergency Service Departments will be operating routinely. All non-emergency Police requests for an officer to respond should be made by phone at 215-328-8524.

● All non-essential Board, Committee, and Homeowner Association meetings have been cancelled.

● All Parks & Recreation programs have been suspended until April 1 or as otherwise noted.
