Susan McCarthy's career at the Council Rock School District spans nearly 50 years.

NEWTOWN, PA — After a 48-year career with the school district, Council Rock High School North Principal Susan McCarthy has announced her retirement.
The surprise announcement came in a letter to district students and staff on Tuesday morning. McCarthy will retire at the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
She said the Council Rock students, staff and community have been an integral part of her life, which made the decision to leave a difficult one.

"After much thought, I made the decision before ever knowing that my last year would unfold as it has," McCarthy writes. "In many ways, this unprecedented school year has taught me so many things that all of the previous years combined have not. Although I waver daily about my decision, I believe in my heart that the time has finally come to spend more time with family and friends, in pursuit of a future that holds, if not endless possibilities, at least many more than I have had the opportunity to pursue up to now."
McCarthy joined the district in 1973 as a high school English teacher, later transitioning into the roles of department coordinator, guidance counselor, assistant principal and principal.
