Driver Escapes Injury After Crashing Into Newtown Twp. Restaurant
The force of the crash left shattered window frames, broken glass, and loose bricks in front of the eatery and extensive damage inside.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — No one was injured Wednesday morning when a car jumped a curb and crashed through the front window at the Dragon of Newtown restaurant at 25 Swamp Road.
The crash happened at 10:22 a.m. when police said the 75-year-old driver of an Audi Sport ran over a curb, through some shrubs before striking a support beam and then crashing through a front window.
The force of the crash left shattered window frames, broken glass and loose bricks on the sidewalk in front of the eatery and extensive damage to the front waiting area of the eatery where on a busy evening patrons are picking up their take-out orders and paying their bills

"Fortunately, the business was closed at the time and there were no reported injuries to the driver or any persons in the vicinity," said Police Chief John Hearn.
Police called Newtown Fire Rescue and Newtown Township Code Enforcement to the scene to check the structural integrity of the building and safety hazards before removing the vehicle from the damaged lobby.

The cause of the collision is under investigation but appears to be accidental at this time, said Chief Hearn.
The vehicle was towed from the scene and the property was released back to the owner.
The restaurant was closed on Wednesday and a man who answered the phone said they planned to reopen on Friday.
This was the second time in three weeks a car has jumped the curb and caused damage at the Newtown Plaza, a small strip shopping center located next to Univest Bank and across the street from Wendy's on Swamp Road.
On March 23, someone drove through the front porch of the building causing minor damage.
Last November, during a busy Black Friday, a woman escaped injury when her car jumped a curb and crashed through a support beam and into the building at Oishi Restaurant and Body20 at the Village at Newtown Shopping Center.
