Coronavirus PA School Closures: Here's The Latest
Some Pennsylvania schools have already been forced to close due to the spread of coronavirus. Here's what we know so far:
PENNSYLVANIA — Some Eastern Pennsylvania schools have already announced closures amid the spread of the new coronavirus.
Multiple public and private schools have been forced to close due to coronavirus exposure. The closures range from a day to the rest of the week. Colleges have announced closures and a transition to online learning.

Here is new information as of Friday as many counties are taking action to close all schools:
- Montgomery County: All schools, community centers, and some other public places in Montgomery County have been ordered closed by Gov. Wolf Thursday. MORE
- Archdiocese Of Philadelphia: The archdiocese said Friday that all its schools in the five-county region are closing until March 27. MORE.
- Bucks County: All Bucks County schools will close effective immediately through March 29, county officials said Friday. MORE.

- Buckingham Friends School: The Bucks County private school closed Tuesday for a deep cleaning after a student was in contact with a person who later tested positive for the virus. MORE.
- Central Bucks School District: Central Bucks Schools will be closed Friday, March 13 so teachers can prepare distance learning plans. Five Central Bucks School District schools were also closed Friday, March 6 after people within the district were exposed to a confirmed case during a private gathering. Tests on the exposed individuals all came back negative. Schools were cleaned and reopened Monday. MORE.
- Centennial School District: Schools will be closed Friday, March 13. MORE.
- Cheltenham School District: The district will be shut down for the rest of the week due to a parent's contact with a coronavirus patient, the district said Monday, March 9. MORE.
- Council Rock School District: Council Rock schools are closed Friday, March 13. MORE.
- Germantown Academy: The school closed through Wednesday, March 11 after a student's relative tested positive for the virus. The student is self-quarantined for two weeks. MORE.
- Hatboro-Horsham School District: Simmons Elementary has been closed since Tuesday, March 10 after a student was exposed to person who has tested positive for coronavirus. On Wednesday, the district said the school would remain closed Thursday, as the student is exhibiting flu-like symptoms. MORE.
- Henderson High School: Henderson High School was closed Tuesday, March 10 after a student there was exposed to the CHOP doctor. MORE.
- Lower Merion School District: The district closed all schools on Tuesday, March 10 after two students and a staff member may have been exposed to the virus during visits to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia facility in King of Prussia. The district reopened Wednesday, but said schools will dismiss early Thursday and Friday for staff training on remote learning planning. On Thursday, the district said a parent of two students was exposed to the virus, leading the district to dismiss schools early Thursday and close all schools Friday. MORE.
- Neshaminy High School: The school and offices were closed Tuesday, March 10. A student there was in contact with the CHOP doctor as well, the district said. All afternoon and evening activities were canceled. MORE.
- Newtown Friends School: Newtown Friends School will be closed Thursday, March 12 and Friday, March 13. The School’s scheduled spring break will be March 16 to March 20. MORE.
- New Hope-Solebury: All New Hope-Solebury schools are closed Friday, March 13. MORE.
- Norristown Area School District: Schools were closed Tuesday after a student and a parent in Norristown are among those who had contact with the CHOP doctor with coronavirus. Schools in Upper Merion are also closed. MORE.
- Pennsbury School District: All schools will be closed for students on Friday, March 13 for deep cleaning and instructional planning should the District need to close for an extended period in the future. MORE.
- Perkiomen Valley School District: The district's buildings will be shut down and all events and classes canceled from March 13 through March 17. MORE.
- Phoenixville Area School District: The district is closing for one day on Monday, March 16 as a professional development day for staff to prepare various online instruction methods in case the schools must be closed at some point. It will be a day off for students. MORE.
- Pittsburgh Public Schools: Colfax K-8 was closed on Thursday, March 12 because a student might have been exposed to the coronavirus from a relative outside of school. MORE.
- Radnor Township School District: All Radnor Township School District schools will close Monday, March 16 for teacher in-service training for a potential long-term closure due to the coronavirus. MORE.
- School District of Haverford Township: Students will not report to school Friday due to in-service training for faculty and staff as they prepare for a potential extended closure. MORE.
- School District of Philadelphia: Sixty-three schools in the district closed Friday due to staffing shortages tied to Montgomery County's status declared by Gov. Tom Wolf Thursday. MORE.
- Springfield School District: The Springfield School District is closing Monday so faculty and staff plan academic programming for students in the event of a possible, extended closure due to a coronavirus outbreak. MORE.
- Tredyffrin/Easttown School District: The district said it is closing through March 26 following Gov. Tom Wolf's order in neighboring Montgomery County. MORE.
- Wissahickon School District: All Wissahickon schools are dismissing early on Friday, March 13 as staff prepares for remote learning and potential long-term closures. MORE.
- Woodland Hills School District: Woodland Hills Intermediate School was closed Thursday March 12 after a potential student interacted with a staff member at another school where exposure to the coronavirus was a possibility. MORE.
COLLEGES
- Bucknell University: The university will transition to a remote education mode for the remainder of the semester.
- Bucks County Community College: The college will close all campuses from March 14-22 to mitigate the spread of coronavirus. All credit classes will go online from March 23 through April 30. All athletics programs are suspended and public events canceled through April 30. MORE.
- Carnegie Mellon University: Online instruction will begin March 18 and be in effect until further notice. MORE.
- Chestnut Hill College: The college will close until Sunday, March 15. A decision regarding a reopening will be determined over the weekend. MORE.
- Delaware Valley University: Spring Break for all students (including graduate and doctoral students) will be extended through Sunday, March 22. From Monday, March 23 through Sunday, March 29, all course instruction will be conducted remotely, as a trial initiative. MORE.
- Duquesne University: Online instruction begins March 13 and will be in place until at least March 31.
- Edinboro University: The university is suspending face-to-face instruction at least until April 6 and have asked students to move off of campus until then. MORE.
- Gwynedd Mercy University: The university has closed all campuses through the end of March, with courses moving online. MORE.
- Lehigh University: As of Monday, March 16, classes will be taught remotely. MORE.
- Kutztown University: Classes are suspended through Saturday, March 21. MORE.
- Manor College: Classes will be held online from March 16 through March 27. Students must leave residence halls by March 15. MORE.
- Penn State University: All courses will take place off-campus and via remote learning for at least two weeks in the face of mounting concerns over the spread of coronavirus, the school announced Wednesday. MORE
- Robert Morris University: Alternative instruction will begin March 16 and be in effect until April 27. MORE.
- St. Joseph's University: The university will move to online-only classes starting March 19. MORE.
- Temple University: Starting March 16, the school will start online and alternative learning methods, which will continue through the end of the spring semester. MORE.
- University of Pennsylvania: All classes will be provided by virtual instruction, and on-campus activities will be limited. MORE.
- University of Pittsburgh: The university is canceling face-to-face classes and will transition to online instruction. MORE.
- Villanova University: Villanova said it will move all its classes to an online model starting March 16. Additionally, it is barring spectators from all on-campus sporting events. All students have been ordered off campus by Sunday. MORE.
- West Chester University: The University announced Tuesday it will suspend on-campus courses through the end of the semester due to the virus. MORE.
