Along its journey, the relay is drawing attention to and publicly recognizing the nation's heroes, including members of the emergency services (fire, police and emergency medical technicians) and the U.S. Armed Forces who put their lives on the line for their communities and the nation.

In the lead up to Memorial Day, the relay also is about spreading the true meaning of Memorial Day as a time to remember the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who gave the ultimate sacrifice on the battlefields of history, saying thank you to the nation's veterans who served, and "carrying the load" for those who are no longer able to do so.

As they make their way to Dallas, Texas, for a national Memorial Day event, Carry The Load relay teams cross the nation during May to provide a visible way to connect Americans to the sacrifices of military, veterans, first responders and their families.
