Newtown Police Blotter: DUIs, Car Larcenies & More

The Newtown Township Police Department made three DUI arrests on March 7.

NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents between March 5 and March 11, 2021.

March 5

A Wrightstown Township resident contacted police to report a fraud involving a dispute with PayPal and money being taken out of the resident's account.

Around 11: 15 p.m., police carried out a traffic stop on the Newtown Bypass in the area of South Sycamore Street on the driver of a white 2006 Ford pickup truck for a traffic violation. The driver was identified as a person with an active arrest warrant out of Doylestown. He was taken into custody without incident.

March 7

Around 1:30 a.m., police carried out a traffic stop on the Newtown Bypass in the area of Campus Drive on the driver of a silver 2020 Dodge Ram for a traffic violation. The officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

Around 3:30 a.m., police carried out a traffic stop on the Newtown Bypass in the area of South Sycamore Street on the driver of a black 2009 Honda Accord for a traffic violation. The officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

Shortly before midnight, police carried out a traffic stop on Durham Road at Wrenwood Way in Wrightstown Township on the driver of a silver 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe for a traffic violation. The officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

March 9

Around 10:45 a.m., police were called to the Newtown Beer Store for the report of a theft of pallets from the rear of the business. The theft is under investigation.

March 11

Around 3 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Woodbourne Road on the driver of a white 2010 Hyundai Sonata for a traffic violation. Police discovered suspected methamphetamine and other paraphernalia. The narcotics were collected as evidence and the man was released, with charges pending lab results.

Around 12:45 p.m., a Newtown Township resident called to report being a victim of fraud. He related that he had applied for a job online that would allow him to work from home. He was provided a check for $6,800 and was told to purchase work-related computer equipment and return the unused funds. He returned $6,200 before being notified that the first check was fraudulent.

Around 4 p.m., a resident of Skyview Way reported that her boyfriend's vehicle had been entered between midnight and 5 a.m. An unspecified amount of change had been taken from the unlocked vehicle.
