Pedals For Progress Used Bike Drive Is Oct. 26 In Newtown

NEWTOWN, PA — Do you have a bicycle you'd like to recycle and put to good use?

The annual Pedals for Progress used bike drive and sewing machine collection sponsored by the Newtown Rotary Club will be held Saturday, Oct. 26. The collection will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine.

Donations will be accepted at the parking lot across from the Olde Church of Saint Andrew, 135 S. Sycamore Street, Newtown.

Adult and children's bicycles in repairable condition will be accepted to benefit those in developing countries. Bikes for parts or disassembled bikes will not be accepted. Portable sewing machines can also be donated.

The suggested minimum donation is $10 per item, as it costs $45 to collect, process, ship, and distribute each bicycle. All cash and material donations are fully deductible and a receipt will be provided, organizers said.

Pedals for Progress collects 3,000 to 5,000 bicycles annually for the needy.
