PA Coronavirus Update: Still No Local Cases, State 'Is Prepared'
We are "prepared to deal with disease outbreaks, including this one," Pennsylvania's top health official said Tuesday.

HARRISBURG, PA — There have been no confirmed cases of the new coronavirus, known as COVID-19, in Pennsylvania, the state's Secretary of Health reiterated Tuesday in a conference call with reporters.
Dr. Rachel Levin said the state's response teams, which include the health care systems, first responders, and county and municipal health departments, "are prepared to deal with disease outbreaks, including this one."
Levin also said that Pennsylvania now has the ability to test potential cases at the state laboratory in Exton. Those who feel they may have the disease should first see their health care provider, who would consult with the Pennsylvania Health Department and provide a specimen for testing if appropriate.

Levin outlined the steps the state has taken to deal with the potential outbreak, saying the department has maintained communication and outreach with federal, state, and local partners.
Officials have also been proactive in symptom monitoring and are reviewing and adapting the current pandemic flu plan for COVID-19, she said.

The same advice provided to Pennsylvanians during flu season applies to COVID-19, she said. Residents should be washing hands, covering coughs and sneezes, cleaning surfaces, and staying home if they are sick.
"As this situation evolves and develops, we will continue to update Pennsylvanians" through our website and social media accounts, Levin said.
As of Tuesday, there are more than 92,000 cases of COVID-19 worldwide. More than 3,100 people have died.
In the United States, there have been six deaths. The Washington Department of Health said six people in two counties have died of complications linked to the COVID-19 coronavirus.
