Police Make DUI Arrest, Investigate Fraud Cases In Newtown Township
In one fraud case, a caller claiming to be the resident's boss requested that several gift cards be sent via email.
NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Police in Newtown Township reported the following incidents and arrests between Sept. 9 and 11:
September 9
- At approximately 4 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Nissan Rogue for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Buck Road. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected signs of impairment. As a result of the investigation, the driver was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Narcotics were also discovered and seized as evidence. Charges are pending.

- Police responded to a Wrightstown home around 3:15 p.m. for the report of a fraud involving someone posing as the resident’s boss and requesting several gift cards via email. Police said this is a common tactic in imposter gift card scams. Police remind residents to protect themselves and to never share gift card numbers or PINs and to verify any urgent requests by contacting the organization using a separate, official phone number, and reporting the scam to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
September 11
- Police responded to a Newtown Township home around 2 p.m. for the report of an attempted fraud. The resident told police that she was contacted by someone claiming to be from Publishers Clearing House in an attempt to get her to withdraw money to claim her prize. The resident recognized the scam and did not suffer a loss.
