NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — Rocco’s at the Brick closed without notice on Nov. 22, just as the lucrative holiday dining season was about to begin.

Employees reported on social media over the weekend that they were informed of the closure of the popular steak and seafood restaurant at the end of their shift Saturday night.

The restaurant operators blamed the sudden closure on a dispute with the property's landlord and said they are in the process of looking for a new location.

The restaurant advertised itself as serving “phenomenal food in a beautiful ambience,” with views of historic State Street. The restaurant also boasted outdoor seating and a bar along heavily traveled Washington Avenue.

The sudden closure left many wondering whether they would be able to secure refunds for their gift cards. Many were calling the restaurant on Sunday and stopping by the building.

A note posted on the door Sunday read, “We Are Closed” and instructed Rocco customers to stop by on Monday when the office reopens and that gift cards would be refunded. The public can contact Rocco's at hello@roccosatthebrick.com

A second notice posted later in the evening said the Brick Hotel, which is operated separately from the restaurant by the owner of the property, remains open for business.

Rocco’s opened in early 2018 inside the Brick Hotel, which is owned by Verindar Kaur. Kaur also holds the liquor license, which is listed as active on the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board website under the name “the Brick Hotel and Garden Grill.”

Prior to the opening of Rocco’s, The Brick Hotel and Garden Grill gained some notoriety in an episode of 'Hotel Hell,' a TV reality show hosted by Chef Gordon Ramsay.

During the show, Ramsay famously declared, "Shut this place down." In addition to his outburst, Ramsay picked apart the cleanliness of the kitchen, the condition of the rooms, and the overall service provided to customers.

The episode prompted a makeover of the hotel and restaurant with the arrival of Rocco's at the Brick in early 2018.
