Stay-At-Home Order Expanded As Coronavirus Cases Top 1K In PA

HARRISBURG, PA — As Pennsylvania's coronavirus case count exceeded 1,000 Wednesday, Gov. Tom Wolf announced an expansion of his stay-at-home order. Ten Pennsylvania counties are now under the order, as the state's case count jumped 276 overnight.

A total of 1,127 people in Pennsylvania have tested positive for the new coronavirus as of Wednesday at noon.

There have been 11 deaths in Pennsylvania, including two people in Delaware County. An 85-year-year old man and an 86-year-old woman have died from complications of COVID-19, officials said.

The governor's stay-at-home order now includes these 10 counties: Allegheny, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Erie, Lehigh, Monroe, Montgomery, Northampton and Philadelphia.

On Monday, the governor announced the order in seven counties, mostly comprising Philadelphia and Pittsburgh and their suburbs. The two-week order was expanded Wednesday to include Erie, Northampton, and Lehigh counties.

Under the stay-at-home order, people can only leave their home for essential tasks, such as to buy food and pharmaceuticals. Learn more: Here's What You Can Do During PA's 'Stay At Home' Order

Last week, Wolf ordered that all nonessential businesses close their physical locations. Enforcement on that statewide order began Monday.

Schools are closed statewide at least through April 6.

"Pennsylvanians have a very important job right now: Stay calm, stay home and stay safe," Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said. "We have seen case counts continue to increase, and the best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is to stay home.”
