Two Council Rock Principals Announce Retirement

Principals Susan McCarthy and Rebecca Grimm will retire at the end of the 2020-2021 school year.

NEWTOWN, PA — After 28 years of service, the principal of Maureen M. Welch Elementary School has announced her retirement at the end of the 2020-2021 school year.

Rebecca Grimm joined the district in 1993 as a teacher serving both special education classes and regular content classes. In 2004, she transitioned to a leadership role as Richboro Middle School Assistant Principal before transitioning into the role of principal. In 2015, she was named the principal of Welch Elementary School.

Council Rock High School North Principal Susan McCarthy will also retire at the end of the school year following 48 years of service. She joined the district in 1973 as an English teacher at Council Rock North, where she later served as a counselor and assistant principal before being promoted to principal.

The retirements were approved during the Council Rock School Board meeting Thursday.

"It's really a momentous occasion anytime a principal retires from their school community," Superintendent Robert Fraser said. "In these two instances, they have both had long distinguished and highly impactful tenures in the Council Rock School District."
