Upper Makefield Is Planning A Day Of Fun And Community
The township's second annual Community Day will feature everything from a "Taste of Upper Makefield" to a "Touch-A-Truck" experience.

UPPER MAKEFIELD, PA — Upper Makefield will mark the last weekend of summer by coming together to celebrate community.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, the public is invited to a free fun-filled day at Brownsburg Park, 1455 River Road in Upper Makefield (New Hope).
The township's second annual Community Day will feature everything from a "Taste of Upper Makefield" spotlighting some of the township's favorite eating places to a "Touch-A-Truck" experience for the kids, as well as an opportunity to explore the township's brand-new butterfly garden, built in memory of the seven people who died in the 2023 flash flood.

"We're building on last year's success and encouraging everyone to come out and learn about the community," said Yvette Taylor, the chair of the township's board of supervisors. "We'll have our township staff there as well as our public works, police department, fire, and emergency responders, educating the public on what we do.
"It's going to be a lot of fun," said Taylor. "It's a great opportunity to meet your neighbors. It's an opportunity to enjoy some food. Plus, everything is free."

Highlighting the day for the kids will be a "Touch-A-Truck" interactive area spotlighting the vehicles used by the township, from police to public works. "Kids can touch the trucks, learn about what they do, and experience what it's like to sit in the driver's seat," she said.
"We will also have inflatables for the kids - an obstacle course and a slide - those big inflatables that encourage kids to play," added Taylor.

Sports will be ongoing throughout the day, kicking off with a bike rally in the morning and continuing throughout the day with a soccer game, a tennis clinic and tournament, and opportunities to play basketball. "We're inviting everyone to participate," said Taylor.
A new addition this year will be "A Taste of Upper Makefield" spotlighting food from township restaurants and eateries.
"It's a way to introduce our residents to the wide variety of food that can be found in the township," said Taylor. "In the morning, we'll have donuts and coffee. Throughout the afternoon, we'll have different sandwiches and pizza and a lot of foodie surprises," she said.
The township's volunteer boards and commissions will also be represented at the event, providing information about their programs and initiatives.
"They will be there talking about what they do," said Taylor. "We will have representatives there from the Environmental Advisory Council, Parks and Recreation, the Planning Commission, and the Historical Advisory Commission. Community Day will be a great way to meet some of our volunteers and to encourage even more volunteers."
Taylor said Community Day will also offer residents an opportunity to explore the township's new memorial butterfly garden, which will be open to the public.
"It's an absolutely beautiful addition to the township," said Taylor. "We will have our environmental. advisory board members there to talk about the plants that were used in the creation of the garden.
Throughout the day, Taylor said students from the Sol Feinstone Elementary School will also be at Community Day, sharing their winning science fair projects with the public.
"People will be able to learn about their projects. And some of their projects are quite amazing. We have geniuses," she said.
A reenactor will also be attending Community Day to share with the public the township's incredible history as the home of Washington Crossing Historic Park.
"We also will be providing historical information about Upper Makefield at the event," said Taylor. "We will be bringing a lot of documentation to the park so people can look through that and learn more about the development of Upper Makefield and Washington Crossing."
Upper Makefield Community Day is free and open to the public.
