Spring Tour To Explore Buildings At Tyler Park In Bucks: What You Need To Know

The event will benefit the Friends of Tyler State Park, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting, preserving and promoting the park.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Friends of Tyler State Park will be offering a rare inside look at some of the buildings that make up Tyler State Park in Newtown and Northampton townships.

During its first Open House Tour on Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Friends will be opening six buildings to the public, including the Park Office/Comly Farm at 101 Swamp Road, the Pine Grove Farm at 315 Swamp Road, Spring Garden Mill at 1440 Newtown-Richboro Road, the Arts Center Barn at 12 Stable Mill Road, Solly House (a short walk from the covered bridge), in addition to the Schofield-Ford Covered Bridge at 385 Swamp Road.

Participants are free to visit the houses in any order they wish after they register at the Park Office. They will be met at each building by a docent who will give them a guided tour of the building, including its historical significance to the park.

Participants will have to drive to each site using exterior park roads. No car traffic will be allowed inside the park except to register for the tour at the office. Drivers must park in a designated parking lot. No parking will be allowed along the side of park roads.

To reach the Covered Bridge and Solly House, participants should be prepared to walk from the Covered Bridge parking lot off of Swamp Road, down a set of outside stairs and along unpaved trails to reach the bridge and the house.

For an additional fee, a tour is offered of the Tyler Mansion on the campus of the Bucks County Community College off of Swamp Road. The mansion tours begin promptly at 9 and 10 a.m. and are limited to 25 people per tour.

Parking instructions at the Bucks County Community College will be sent to registered attendees. Tyler Mansion is unavailable after 11 a.m. due to another event.

Registration for the tour begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Park Office (101 Swamp Road) for all participants, including those on the Tyler Mansion tours. During registration, each participant will receive a wristband, which must be worn during the tour to be admitted to the buildings.

Tickets are $25 per person for the house tour only and $50 per person for House Tour and Tyler Mansion. Children 15 and under are admitted free
