KOP Business Improvement District Gets $500,000 Grant for Commuter Shuttle

According to a release from the King of Prussia Business Improvement District (KOP-BID), the group was recently awarded a $500,000 three-year Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) Grant by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC).

The grant will provide partial funding for a commuter transit shuttle service connecting the King of Prussia Business Park to SEPTA Regional Rail at the Norristown Transportation Center and the Wayne Station. KOP-BID partnered with Upper Merion Township to submit the application for the grant.

KOP-BID will reportedly partner with King of Prussia commercial property owners to complete funding for the shuttle. A fare structure for shuttle tickets is still being determined.  

The commuter transit shuttle is slated to start operations in Spring 2013. The shuttle will be in service Monday through Friday during the morning and evening commute, providing an alternate option for King of Prussia's more than 57,000 employees who commute by vehicle each day.

KOP-BID plans to hire a private vendor to run the shuttle system. The shuttles are expected to be branded vehicles with Wi-Fi access and bike racks.
