Montco Homelessness Doubles From 2021: Ida & Rising Rents To Blame
The higher homelessness count was in part due to last year's Hurricane Ida and rising rent throughout the region, says a recent report.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — Homelessness in the county has risen significantly — doubling from 2021, actually — and officials are blaming both rising rental pricing and the fallout from last year's Hurricane Ida, which caused widespread damage and forced some people out of their damaged homes, according to a recent news report.
The report, on WFMZ 69, says that a one-night count of area homeless shelters, housing projects or outdoor spaces back in January of this year showed a 118 percent increase from the homelessness count in 2021, the story states.
