Montgomery County Man Who Threatened Democratic Headquarters Set To Be Sentenced

NORRISTOWN, PA — A Montgomery County man who pleaded guilty earlier this year in connection with a threatening incident against the county's Democratic party headquarters is scheduled to be sentenced by a federal judge this week.

Anthony Nero, of Worcester Township, pleaded guilty in January to charges of cyberstalking and sending threatening messages in connection with an incident that occurred in Norristown Borough back in January 2021.

Nero was originally supposed to be sentenced in the case last month but sentencing now will take place on Wednesday in the courtroom of U.S. District Judge Karen Spencer Marston at the federal building in downtown Philadelphia, according to the court docket in the case.

Patch previously reported on Nero's case, in which the Montgomery County resident, who is in his late 40s, had sent an email to county Democratic officials in which he threatened "random acts of violence," and wrote, "you should probably beef up security."

The threats came during a time of unrest as the country saw the end of the Donald Trump presidency.

Patch also previously reported that Nero had apparently told Norristown Police in February 2021 that he was the same individual who had shot a .45 caliber handgun three times at the Montgomery County Democratic Party office building.

Nero was originally set to be tried on charges in connection with the incidents at the state level, but the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office withdrew the charges after the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania took over the case.
