Rescue crews accompanied by police canvassed the wooded area around Stony Creek to warn homeless people who stay there about the possible impending floodwaters.
From the Norristown Fire Department's website:
Before the storm hit, rescue crews from the Norristown Fire Department accompanied by Norristown Police canvassed the Stony Creek for homeless members of the community who spend their nights along the creek bed.
During Hurricane Irene, two successful rescues were completed by members of the department in the raging waters. Authorities hoped the advanced notice would protect the lives of the homeless and avoid putting rescue crews in danger.
