Norristown Man in Stable Condition After Wednesday Night Shooting in Alley

The 21-year-old man was shot late Wednesday night in an apparent robbery attempt.

An official from Paoli Hospital confirmed on Monday that the 21-year-old male who suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach late Wednesday night, Nov. 21, is still hospitalized but in stabile condition.

According to reports from the Norristown Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area of DeKalb and Elm streets just after 11:45 p.m. for a report of shots fired which was upgraded to a possible shooting while officers were en route. 

On the scene, officers discovered the victim, a 21-year-old Norristown man, laying on the north side of the 100 block of East Jacoby Street. The victim's 28-year-old brother was reportedly also on the scene, applying pressure to the victim's abdomen.

The older brother reportedly told police that the two men had been walking northbound in the 900 block of Polk Alley when an unidentified black male holding a black handgun appeared in the alley and called out, "Give that shit up." The older brother reported jumping when the two were startled by the suspect and the suspect allegedly opened fire at the men, hitting the victim in the stomach.

The older brother reports running to Jacoby Street to escape the gunfire, but returning for his brother after the shooter had fled the scene. The older brother then helped the victim to Jacoby Street where they were discovered by police. The men reported that nothing was taken from them.

The men were unable to provide an accurate description of the shooter in the dark alley, but a police tipster reported seeing a black male running from the area immediately following the shooting. The man was described as 6' to 6'2" in height, with a long goatee and wearing a green Carhartt jacket with a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Police reportedly searched the area and recovered a black, flashlight-style stun gun behind a house on the 900 block of DeKalb Street, that the older brother stated belonged to the victim. Police recovered no shell casings and could only locate one possible bullet hole in a nearby wooden fence.

Emergence medical personnel from Plymouth Ambulance Company reportedly treated the victim at the scene for a single gunshot wound to the stomach and then transported him to the Norristown State Hospital. He he was flown by medevac from there to Paoli Hospital for further treatment.

The older brother reportedly refused to accompany officers to the station to discuss the incident with detectives. Norristown Police are investigating the shooting and ask that anyone with information call 610-270-0977.
