At Least Eight Candidates Apply for North Allegheny School Board Vacancy
The board will select the candidate to replace Beth Ludwig, who resigned last month, at a public meeting March 20.
With just three hours to go before yesterday's 4 p.m. deadline, eight people had applied for the vacancy on the North Allegheny School Board, according to board secretary Rose Mary Ryan. The district has not yet released the names of the applicants.
Beth Ludwig, a member of the board since 2001, resigned last month.
Ludwig said the discourse over the proposed closing of Peebles Elementary School had become too intense.

The individual who is selected will serve on the board until the first Monday of December 2013, following the next municipal election.
The new board member will be selected by a public vote of the board following interviews at a public meeting on March 20, beginning at 7 p.m. in the board room of the district's central administration offices. The oath of office will be administered immediately following the vote of the board and acceptance of the candidate. The new board member will assume his/her duties immediately.
