Auto Parts Store Proposed for McCandless
It would be built on one of five vacant properties in McCandless. So what are the plans for the other four?
The Town of McCandless planning commission Tuesday recommended approval of plans for a new AutoZone parts and equipment store at 10451 Perry Highway. The space, across the street from Baierl Honda, had been occupied by a Valero Gas Station, which closed late last year. McCandless Town council must approve the plans, before construction can begin.
There are no known plans right now for four other, longtime vacant properties in McCandless.
1. Red River Barbeque, 9805 McKnight Road, Pine Creek Shopping Center
The restaurant has been vacant since 2006 and is visibly deteriorating.Â
2. First National Bank, 9805 McKnight Road, Pine Creek Shopping Center
The Bank closed more than a year ago.Â
3. Sun Books, across from Trader Horn's on Blazier Drive.
The building has been vacant for several years and is currently being used as a training facility by local volunteer firefighters. The last long-term tenant was Bally's Health club. When LA Fitness opened in McCandless Crossing, Bally's quickly closed. This Bally’s was purchased by LA Fitness along with all the memberships which transferred to LA Fitness.
4. Saturn of Wexford, 10247 Perry Highway.
The auto dealership closed several years ago. The building and its 5.9 acre lot are valued at $1,167,500 according to the Allegheny County Real Estate web site.Â
